For website owners

Free live disaster alerts widget

Put a live feed of earthquakes, floods, storms, wildfires and volcanoes on your own site. Filter it to one country or one hazard, match it to your theme, and paste one block of HTML. No account, no key, no tracking, no cost.

A country widget widens its time window automatically when nothing has happened recently, so it does not sit empty.

The widget is fluid; this only caps it. Picking a specific width also makes the snippet's fallback height more accurate, which matters only if your CMS strips the resize script.

Live preview

This is the real widget, not a mock-up — the events below are live right now.

Paste this into your page

Anywhere in your HTML — a sidebar, a template, a WordPress Custom HTML block.

Keep the credit line. It is the second half of the snippet — the sentence under the frame with a link to this site. That link is the only thing we ask for in exchange, and it is the only part of the snippet that cannot be removed under the licence below. Everything else is yours to restyle.

Widgets for one place

For a local news site, a school, a council or a blog that needs one answer rather than a feed: is the county in a drought, is there a tornado warning in the state, is the river high. Each widget is the live answer from one of this site's tools, about 340 pixels wide, in light, dark or automatic theme. The code below is for the example place; open the tool page for your own place and copy the code from its "Embed this" box.

US drought by county

What you are installing

The widget is an <iframe> pointing at https://worldnaturaldisasters.com/embed/alerts, plus about six lines of JavaScript that listen for a height message so the frame grows to fit its contents. Both halves are visible in the snippet above; there is nothing else, and nothing is loaded from any other domain.

The JavaScript is optional. If your CMS strips <script> tags, delete it — the frame keeps the fixed height in the snippet, which is already sized for the number of events you chose. The widget itself does not need it to work.

What it will not do

  • No tracking. No cookies, no analytics, no advertising, no fingerprinting. Your visitors' browsers make one request to this domain and none anywhere else, so the widget adds nothing to your consent banner.
  • No county-level noise. Satellite fire-detection cells and US county weather warnings arrive here in the hundreds every hour and are excluded from the widget entirely. What you get are named events from USGS, EMSC, GDACS, NASA EONET and ReliefWeb.
  • No layout shift. The frame is sized before it loads and only ever adjusts to its real content height.

Licence

Free for any website, personal or commercial, with no limit on page views. Keep the attribution link visible. Do not present the data as an official warning — this site aggregates public agency feeds and is not an emergency authority, which is the same condition under which we use the sources. See data sources and the disclaimer.

If you want more control

Everything the widget shows is available as JSON from the free API — no key, CORS enabled, documented, with an OpenAPI 3.1 spec. Use that instead if you would rather render the events in your own markup, or if you need fields the widget does not show.

Questions

Is the widget free?

Yes — free for any website, personal or commercial, with no key, no registration and no limit on page views. The only condition is that the attribution link included in the snippet stays visible.

Will it slow my site down?

No. The widget loads in an iframe marked loading="lazy", so it is fetched only when it scrolls into view, and it never blocks your page from rendering. It ships no web fonts, no images and no tracking, and the whole document is served from one cached request.

Does the widget track my visitors?

No. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads nothing from any third party. Your visitors' browsers request one HTML document from worldnaturaldisasters.com and nothing else, which is why it needs no consent banner of its own.

Where does the data come from?

The same feeds this site runs on — USGS and EMSC for earthquakes, GDACS for multi-hazard alerts, NASA EONET for wildfires and volcanoes, and ReliefWeb for humanitarian emergencies. Sources are re-synced every two minutes.

Can I change the colours or the size?

The widget follows your page: it is fluid in width and offers light, dark and automatic themes, the last of which matches your visitor's system setting. For full control over the markup, use the free JSON API instead and render the events yourself.

What happens if nothing is happening in my country?

The widget widens its window rather than showing an empty box. If there is still nothing, it says so plainly — which for a disaster monitor is a useful answer rather than a failure.
