Disease outbreaks reported by WHO
The World Health Organization's Disease Outbreak News, newest first.
This is an index of what WHO published, with a link to each bulletin — not a copy of it.
Not every outbreak here followed a disaster.
WHO reports every outbreak within its remit, and many have no connection to a flood
or an earthquake at all. Working out which ones did cannot be done from a headline,
so this page does not guess — it shows what WHO published and links to their
own assessment.

A dash in the country column means the headline named no country
this site holds a page for — a multi-country event, or an update to an earlier bulletin.
The country is read from WHO's own title rather than guessed.
Why a disaster site tracks outbreaks
Because the second disaster is often the disease. Standing floodwater breeds
the mosquitoes that carry malaria and dengue. Displacement puts people into camps sharing water
and sanitation. Damaged treatment plants put sewage into drinking supplies, and cholera follows.
Pakistan's 2022 monsoon floods were followed by a malaria surge and a cholera emergency across
the worst-hit districts of Sindh — the same districts, the same people, weeks later.
Somebody reading about a flood on this site is usually asking what happens
next. This is part of the answer, which is why it sits here rather than being left to a health
site the reader would have to go and find.
What this page is not
- Not medical advice
- Nothing here tells you what to do about an
illness. WHO's own bulletin carries their risk assessment and advice, and every row above
links straight to it. For anything personal, a doctor and your national health service are
the answer, not a website.
- Not graded by us
- WHO does not publish a severity level for these
bulletins and we do not invent one. You will not find a red badge on this page; every other
coloured badge on this site means a hazard level that an agency issued, and putting one here
would mean something that is not true.
- Not on the map
- An outbreak is not a thing that happened at a
coordinate on a date, so it never becomes a marker or an alert. The same rule keeps
geomagnetic storms off the map: an event with no location cannot honestly be given one.
