About the globe

The globe shows the same selection of events as the live map: every hazard type from the last seven days, with the busiest types capped so that one kind of warning cannot crowd out the rest. The background is NASA's Blue Marble, a cloud-free composite of satellite images, so it shows the Earth's surface in general, not today's weather. Severity is as each source reported it or as this site graded it — the methodology page explains how.

Questions

What does the colour of each dot on the globe mean?

Its severity, as the source reported it or as this site graded it: extreme, severe, moderate or minor. The legend under the globe shows the colours.

How recent are the events on the 3D globe?

They are from the last seven days: the same selection as the live map, with every hazard type and the busiest types capped.

Why can't I see the globe?

The globe needs a browser with WebGL. Without it, the newest events are listed as links under the globe.
