Accessibility Statement

Last updated: October 19, 2026

We want disaster information to be usable by everyone, including people with disabilities. This site targets WCAG 2.2 Level AA.

What we provide

  • Full keyboard navigation with visible focus indicators and a skip-to-content link.
  • Severity communicated by text labels and icon counts — never by colour alone.
  • A text-based live alerts list equivalent to the interactive map.
  • Reduced-motion support: all animations, pulsing markers and particles are disabled when your system requests reduced motion.
  • Semantic headings, landmarks, form labels and ARIA where needed.
  • Sufficient colour contrast on the dark theme.
  • Responsive layout usable at 400% zoom and on small screens.

Known limitations

  • The interactive map itself has limited screen-reader support (a Leaflet constraint) — the alerts list carries the same data.
  • Some third-party source pages we link to may not meet the same standards.
