Editorial Policy
Last updated: October 19, 2026
Scope
This policy covers editorial content: articles, safety guides, country descriptions and historical entries. Live event data is automated and governed by our methodology instead.
Sourcing standards
- Factual claims must cite official agencies, peer-reviewed research or established reference works.
- Casualty and damage figures always carry source attribution; where sources disagree, we present a primary figure with an uncertainty note.
- Safety guidance is checked against official emergency-management recommendations (FEMA/Ready.gov, IFRC, WHO, national agencies).
Editorial workflow
Content moves through defined states: draft → review → published, with a correction state for post-publication fixes. Nothing reaches readers without human review. Publication and update dates are displayed on every article.
Use of automation and AI
We may use software tools, including AI assistance, for drafting and data processing. All published editorial content is reviewed, fact-checked and approved by a human editor before publication. Demo or placeholder content is always labelled as such.
Independence
Editorial content is not influenced by advertisers. See the advertising policy for how ads are separated from content.
