Met Office warnings for Lancashire
Lancashire is in the Met Office's North West England warning area. Every snow, ice, wind and rain warning in force there now is on weather warnings for North West England. A warning is not a closure order: with red many schools close, with amber or yellow most stay open.
Who decides whether schools close
The school decides, normally the headteacher with the governing body or academy trust. Department for Education guidance says settings should stay open in severe weather where it is safe to do so, and accepts that a temporary closure may be needed when a site cannot be reached or there is a risk of injury.
Official guidance: Emergency planning and response for education, childcare, and children's social care settings (Department for Education).
