Subtropical Storm Josephine has formed out of an originally non-tropical low about 500 km south of Cape Cod.
The CHC has been monitoring the evolution of cloud patterns in a once non-tropical low over the Gulf Stream off the U.S. East Coast during the past few days. The low has developed enough tropical characteristics to be designated a named sub-tropical system by the National Hurricane Center in Miami. The storm, however, will quickly transform back to a non-tropical low later Thursday while intensifying and bringing up to hurricane-force winds over southern Canadian waters. The centre will track eastward well south of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.
Some rain and wind is likely to move into southern Nova Scotia during the day Thursday and eventually southeastern Newfoundland. Gusty northeast winds will accompany the rain but this weather will be indirectly connected to Josephine.
This bulletin is geographically set for portions of the Maritimes Marine district slope waters nearest to the track of the storm.
A CHC-specific track/intensity forecast is not planned at this time given the brief period the storm is expected to be sub-tropical and quick transition to frontal system again. If warranted, an update to this bulletin would be issued by late Thursday morning.
