Where these warnings come from
Every warning here was issued by State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), Spain's national weather service, for its Meteoalerta zones, and published through MeteoAlarm. This site places each zone in its autonomous community using AEMET's own zone list, stores warnings rated Moderate (Yellow) and above, shows only the newest version of an updated warning, and does not issue warnings. River flood alerts come from the river basin authorities and emergency alerts from regional civil protection (112). Follow AEMET and your local authorities.

What is a DANA?
DANA stands for "depresión aislada en niveles altos", an isolated low at high altitude, also called a cut-off low: a pocket of cold air high in the atmosphere that has broken away from the jet stream and can stall over one area for days. In autumn the Mediterranean is still warm, and cold air aloft over warm, moist air can set off slow-moving thunderstorms with torrential rain. That is why Valencia, Murcia, Andalusia, Catalonia and the Balearic Islands get their worst flash floods between September and November; the October 2024 floods in the province of Valencia were caused by a DANA. Not every DANA brings extreme rain, and the word describes the weather system, not a warning level: the warnings are what to act on.

AEMET, Spain's State Meteorological Agency, issues the weather warnings for Castile and León (Castilla y León) under its Meteoalerta plan, zone by zone, and publishes them to MeteoAlarm. Regional civil protection decides on measures such as school closures and sends emergency alerts; in an emergency call 112. This site shows AEMET's warnings as MeteoAlarm publishes them and does not issue warnings.
