Elevated fire weather conditions can be expected across portions
of southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi this afternoon
and through the weekend. Relative humidity values are forecast to
drop into the low 20 to mid 30 percent range. The 20 ft wind
forecast is at or less than 10 mph, which will limit critical fire
weather conditions or at least the effective spread of fires that
may ignite.

Numerous local burn bans are in place and continue to expand across
LA and MS due to ongoing drought conditions. This now includes East
Feliciana, Pointe Coupee, St. Helena, St Tammany, Tangipahoa, and
Washington Parishes along with Wilkinson, Amite, Pike, and
Walthall Counties. Regardless, outdoor burning is strongly not
recommended this afternoon, and all local restrictions followed.

Additional statements, Fire Weather Watches or Red Flag Warnings
will be possible in the upcoming days as drought conditions
worsen, relative humidity values remain low during the afternoon,
and eventually winds begin to increase, especially this weekend.
