The Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) has upgraded Invest 99W to
Tropical Depression 31W. As of 7:00 PM ChST this evening, 31W was
moving northwest at 21 MPH with maximum sustained winds of 30 MPH.
The current track shows 31W passing north of Agrihan early Saturday
morning, strengthening into a low-end tropical storm. However,
tropical storm-force winds are expected to remain north of the
center, so damaging winds are not expected for Alamagan, Pagan,
or Agrihan at this time. However, residents of the northern CNMI
should monitor the forecast for any changes to this expectation.
31W is forecast to exit the northern CNMI by Saturday afternoon,
possibly remaining a tropical storm.
Through tonight, prepare for increasing rainfall, with isolated
thunderstorms and strong gusty winds within the heavier showers. 1
to 2 inches of rainfall are expected, with gusts up to 40 mph
possible.
This will be the final Special Weather Statement issued regarding TD
31W. Please refer to NWS Guam Public Advisories under WMO header
WTPQ31 PGTW, as well as JTWC bulletins under WMO header ABPW10 PGTW
and WTPN31 PGTW.
