The 2026 monsoon season has commenced across Pakistan, with the first spell of seasonal rains affecting several parts of the country and increasing the risk of flash floods, riverine flooding, landslides, and other weather-related hazards, particularly in vulnerable and mountainous areas. [...] Between 28 June and 1 July 2026, monsoon-related incidents were reported in Gilgit-Baltistan and Lower Chitral, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In Diamer District, a flash flood damaged 5–6 houses, washed away one vehicle, and temporarily disrupted road access for around 400 households, while in Ghizer District, rising water levels in River Ghizer caused localized flooding affecting several households. In Lower Chitral, flash flooding damaged residential houses, standing crops, and orchards. ([IFRC & Pakistan Red Crescent, 1 Jul 2026](https://reliefweb.int/node/4218910))
Among the significant incidents reported during the period, a cloudburst on 19 July in Lari Mengal, Doga Top, and Katha Peeran (Union Council Salkhala, Tehsil Athmuqam, District Neelum, AJK) triggered a flash flood that damaged educational institutions, residential houses, commercial shops, and vehicles. Rescue teams and relevant government departments immediately initiated response operations, rapid damage assessments, and the relocation of affected families to safer locations. On the same day, heavy rainfall triggered flash flooding in Rupal Valley, Sub-Division Shounter, District Astore, Gilgit-Baltistan, where no casualties or damage to residential houses were reported, although minor damage to agricultural crops occurred. Subsequently, on 21 July, another flash flood in Louse Village, District Astore, inundated several residential houses, damaging household belongings and essential assets. Monsoon 2026 has caused 158 deaths and 470 injuries across Pakistan. 1350 houses have been damaged, affecting 585 livestock and 27.84 km of roads.
