The Ministry of Environment and Tourism, through the Department of Meteorological Services, wishes to advise members of the public of a significant increase in temperatures across the country. Very hot to extremely hot temperatures, ranging from 36°C to 40°C, are expected over most parts of the country, with the highest temperatures likely over the northern parts of Botswana. These conditions are expected to persist from 13th to 22nd October 2026.
The prevailing high temperatures are associated with persistent northerly winds, bringing in hot air into the country, together with a high-pressure system in the middle levels of the atmosphere. This combination promotes the accumulation of heat near the Earth's surface, resulting in persistently high temperatures.
