Cameroon's Far North Region is facing a rapidly expanding outbreak. Since late June, more than 1,250 cases and 31 deaths have been reported across nine health districts. The outbreak has already surpassed the scale of recent epidemics recorded in 2019, 2022 and 2024 in Cameroon. Particularly concerning is the situation in Minawao refugee camp, home to over 81,000 refugees, where dozens of cases have been recorded. To bolster the response, $1 million was allocated from CERF to support cholera prevention, treatment, water and sanitation interventions targeting 230,000 people, including children and refugee populations in high-risk border areas. The funding comes as humanitarian partners struggle with severe shortfalls under the country's humanitarian response plan. ([OCHA, 10 Sep 2026](https://reliefweb.int/node/4229293))

As of September 20, 447 cholera cases and four deaths have been reported in Minawao Refugee Camp, which currently is home to more than 81,000 refugees and operating at about 325% of intended capacity. In Cameroon, there have been 2,753 cases and 77 deaths across 11 health districts. ([IMC, 22 Sep 2026](https://reliefweb.int/node/4230953))

As of 23 September 2026, Cameroon’s North Region had reported 37 cholera cases and six deaths, with Guider recording the highest number of cases. The high case fatality rate of 16.2% raised concerns about delayed detection and referral or limited access to quality treatment. In the Far North, insecurity-related displacement was increasing pressure on health services, water and sanitation in host communities. UNICEF’s response was 48% funded, leaving a funding gap of US$660,800. ([UNICEF, 7 Oct 2026](https://reliefweb.int/node/4233287))

On 6 October, International Medical Corps reported that the latest government figures recorded 2,903 confirmed cholera cases and 84 deaths across 13 health districts in Cameroon, giving a case fatality rate of 2.89%. As of 5 October, Minawao refugee camp had recorded 459 cases and
